Previously, the Consumer Council conducted tests on the efficacy of compression stockings, and the brand that performed best was Slimwalk from Japan. Its superior durability and pressure distribution perfectly met the required standards. Furthermore, Slimwalk stockings are medical-grade health compression stockings, recognized by general medical equipment manufacturers in Japan . 【principle 】
Compression stockings work by providing the highest pressure at the ankle and then gradually decreasing it upwards along the leg. This external pressure forces venous blood, lymph, and metabolic waste from the legs to flow back to the heart from the soles of the feet, reducing the pressure on the veins and valves in the lower limbs. This helps prevent varicose veins and alleviate leg edema.
Compression stockings must provide even pressure, being tighter at the bottom and looser at the top, to effectively promote the upward return of venous blood and lymph from the lower limbs to the heart. According to British Standard BS661210, the pressure provided by compression stockings should be highest at the ankle (100%), decreasing upwards along the leg. The pressure at the calf should be 50% to 85% of the ankle pressure, and the pressure at the thigh should be 50% to 85% of the calf pressure. In other words, compression stockings must meet these standards to improve varicose veins and edema.
